“Followed by next week’s… Return To Beckinsale OglingMaster Iron Fist

Underworld Wins. Another Sensei Streak Hits 10.

————————–——-

1. Underworld: Awakening

Prediction: 28 million. Actual: 25.3 Million. Close battle…

Film came in just under Underworld: Evolution’s opening, just missing the best franchise opening. Still, nothing to be ashamed of. Film opened well and very healthy.

Sensei’s streak of calling the #1 film extends to ten straight weeks.

2. Red Tails

Prediction: 19 million. Actual: 18.7 Million. Easily one of the best calls of the new year…

Great call predicting this over-performance. Film easily beat Hollywood’s expectations and again showed how our prediction calls go with analysis, audience research, and not innuendo and hype.

3. Contraband

Prediction: 13 million. Actual: 12 Million. Ms. January?…

Kate Beckinsale easily earns that nickname. Add yet another hit to the preemptive named “Ms. January’s” impressive box office resume.

4. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

Prediction: 11.7 million. Actual: 10 Million.  Another close call…

Great call on the film’s range. As predicted, Tom Hanks isn’t the box office draw he used to be and struggled against the well known franchise entry opening.

5. Beauty And The Beast

Prediction: 10 Million. Actual: 8.7 Million. Stays on track…

The “tale as old as time” continued Disney’s recent success with 3D conversions. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving.

Bonus Calls:   Haywire — Prediction: 7 Million.   Actual: 9 Million.

Until Next Time,

Sensei White Lotus

    Ah darn it.

I missed calling “Haywire” by a lousy million.

And while I have read reviews that the movie basically stinks, most seem to be impressed by Gina Carano’s performance. Here’s hoping that she makes good in future films.

But, come on….’Ms. January’ is why “Contraband” did so well? Wahlberg had nothing to do with it? Timing for an action flick had nothing to do with it?

Okay, Beckinsale is serious eye-candy, I can go wit’ dat. But making her the reason for “Contraband” staying in top 5 contention? That’s an conclusion too far.

After all, didn’t Nolte write that the movie star is dead? (suicide-by-condecension being listed as the probable cause of death)

That said, now the interesting part begins. Let’s see how the box office fares in the weeks following the premiere weekend.

Trend upward? Or fall off of a cliff? Edging towards that all-important…uh…What do they call it? The Multiple?

Word-of-mouth starts now, and the fate of films stand in the balance.

Hey, calling a film within 1-2 million is considered expert. You nailed that call, Priest. Remember that in the prediction business, everyone just seeking someone who can call the correct range, “exact hits” when they can. No Priest, that was a great call, even better than Sensei’s seven million dollar call.
