No question, Greek mythology has been hot at the box office the last couple years. Clash of the Titans (the 2010 version) found enormous box office success and is currently preparing its sequel.

Percy Jackson, the God Of War video game series, it seems you find mythology based projects everywhere these days.

“And then…a basketball game broke out…”

The latest offering in mythological lure, Immortals, will also rule the box office. Here are the main reasons why…

1. Taps Into 300.

It’s no surprise that the producers on Immortals also came from 300. The massive box office success of 2006′s 300 offered an incredible vision for mythology based tales to translate to screen. The energy, the action, the overall spectacle has already translated to success in TV shows like Spartacus: Blood and Sand. This merging of style and story will once again bring enormous success to Immortals.

2. Henry Cavill.

Without question one of the most interesting rises in film history. For many he was first seen in 2002′s Count Of Monte Cristo playing the young Albert Mondego. What would follow is a eye opening career where he almost became James Bond (was too young unfortunately), was Director Stephanie Myer’s first choice to play Edward in Twilight (but ended up too old for the character when the film finally came to fruition), and even lost in a close audition to Christian Bale to be Batman in Batman Begins.

“Oh…what could have been.”

Empire Magazine in 2005 went as far as to dub him the “most unlucky man in Hollywood.”

Now it’s his chance to break out. Hungry and wanting, he’s already landed the role of the next Superman and audiences will enjoy seeing someone who’s long been “a future star in waiting.”

3. A very hungry target audience.

Currently there isn’t much for Immortal’s target audience to chew on. With Spartacus not on television until January, a current God of War not in rotation, Clash of the Titans 2 very far off, and In Time being the best the current Hollywood frame can offer in terms of action (which won’t satisfy 300 fans). Expect quite a surge of interest to flow Immortals way opening weekend.

“This is just my day job…”

4. The way story is presented. No filler applied.

Let’s face it, action audiences don’t like mounds upon mounds of filler in their action film choices. Last Summer saw more action junkies flock to Fast Five with its straight forward approach where additional filler need not apply. The same can be said for Immortals. Greek mythology is offering the story, 300 offers the style and energy, and with the right combination can satisfy the masses (like Fast Five) in a straight forward way. Immortals will be well rewarded for this simple and specific story approach.

Sensei foresees a very successful “Immortals” opening. One that easily beats tracking currently available (some as low as only a 20 million opening weekend). Immortals will easily venture past that and become one the most successful films of the Fall.

Best epic regards,

Sensei White Lotus

Clash was a success? Huh. I never looked at Box Office Mojo, but from the general buzz, it seemed like Clash was a disaster. If not in box office, then at least in execution.
