Hard to imagine it’s been 35 years since Star Wars premiered in theaters. To celebrate what is easily one of film’s most crowning imaginative endeavors, we count down our five favorite … Star Wars trailers of all time…
…
5. Star Wars Trilogy: Empire Theatrical Trailer (1997)
As Star Wars films re-entered theaters in 1997, this trailer combined elements from both Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi into one cinematic experience. A rare fun look into the story after the first assault on the Death Star.

4. Episode One Theatrical Trailer (1999)
We’d be amiss not to include the trailer that vast audiences literally bought tickets for other films to see (Meet Joe Black, anyone), only to walk out after.
While the film’s merit itself is debatable, the trailer remains unforgettable enhanced by Yoda’s description of one’s descent into the dark side.

3. Episode III Theatrical Trailer (2005)
While the first two prequels seemed all about set-up and exposition, this trailer gets right down to the heart of Anakin Skywalker’s fall. The darker, more intimate tone has kept this trailer well served in Star Wars lure.

2. Empire Theatrical Trailer (1980)
Oh yes, Empire Strikes Back rules. In this original trailer, words need not apply (outside of briefly at the end) as we’re treated to the film’s visuals set to John William’s mesmerizing score.
Extra points for the old school “scrolling” character screens…

1. Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition Trailer (1997)
The debate over changes in the films notwithstanding, this thrilling “old meets new”-like trailer felt like greeting an old friend. Released to prepare audiences for the re-issue, this trailer stands as a fun reminder of why we love the big screen.
