Real Steel scores knockout. Ides left with excuses.

1. Real Steel
Prediction: 26 million. Actual: 27.3 million. Very nice call…

Film did easily venture past openings posted by Contagion and other recent top newcomers. Sensei starts a new streak.
2. The Ides Of March
Prediction: 12 million. Actual: 10.4 million.  The excuse machine is in full force…

The film claims is was cheaply made, was an adult drama, the excuses are endless. The reality is that its a low opening for a film of this caliber. Film will need to develop some serious legs over the next few weeks to even be relevant. Not very likely to happen.

3. A Dolphin Tale
Prediction: 10 million. Actual: 9.1 million.  Solid hold.

Ended up being very close to overtaking Ides Of March. Can still enjoy some family audience support next week.
4. Moneyball

Prediction: 9.2 million. Actual: 7.4 million. Made it interesting…

Film did keep the gap close with A Dolphin Tale but then lost in the end. Remains to be seen if the film can continue to generate Oscar buzz.

5.  Courageous
Prediction: 6 million. Actual: #6 with 4.8 millionVery surprising…

Respectable hold but didn’t beat Fireproof’s second week drop of only 41 percent (this had a 46 percent drop). This allowed 50/50 to take the #5 spot with 5.6 million. Still, considering how the film was only produced for only 2 million dollars, you have to continue like these numbers.

Until next time,
