“The next Paranormal will feature found footage from Barney & Friends…”

Paranormal Activity sets new Horror Record.

1. Paranormal Activity 3

Prediction: 47 million. Actual: 52.5 million.  Nice Sensei.

Sensei had a feeling it would go high and PA3 didn’t disappoint. Other sites mainly had the film around the 39-41 million range. Film how holds the record for largest horror opening ever.

As Sensei stated, “Those who become unlikely major blockbuster franchises always blow away pre-set expectations when audience interest is high.” Paranormal did just that.

Sensei starts a new streak of calling the correct #1 film.

2. The Three Musketeers

Prediction: 13 million. Actual: #4 with 8.6 million. All for one and one for…underperformance.

Audience disenchantment did set in quickly. Turned out it set in even quicker than Sensei anticipated. Film just never really had any traction in its marketing, and even with its high screen court did not open well.

3. Real Steel

Prediction: 9.2 million. Actual: #2 with 10.8 million. Did beat “Footloose.”

Three Musketeers‘ loss was Real Steel’s gain. Film managed to finish higher and held off Footloose using, as Sensei noted, huge support from family audiences.

4. Footloose

Prediction: 8 million. Actual: #3 with 10.3 million. Slightly better…

Going to need more drops like this though to really be a factor in the fall box office season. Still, the Hollywood remake machine will still take a pause as the numbers here are still not stellar — yet.

5. Johnny English Reborn

Prediction: 6 million. Actual: #8 with 3.8 million. Just downright “ouch.”

Film managed to drop behind Ides Of March, Dolphin Tale, and even Moneyball this weekend. Film couldn’t even match half of what Nanny McPhee Returns opened with.
But hey at least it beat The Thing…  Speaking of which…
“I’m starting a flame war… You mind?”
Film had an astounding 63.9 percent drop to finish #9 with only 3 million dollars. Add to that last weekend’s already disppointing opening and things are not promsing for this film.

Until next time,
