Showdown Does Decide Weekend
…
Many prediction sites went with Prometheus to win the weekend. Alas, that was not the case. Overall, ended up being a solid box office weekend.
…
1. Madagascar 3 – 55 million. Actual: 60.3 Million.
Sensei’s streak of calling the correct #1 film extends to six straight weeks.
2. Prometheus – 50 Million. Actual: 51 Million.
3. Snow White And The Huntsman – 31 Million. Actual: 23 Million.
4. Men In Black 3 – 14 Million. Actual: 13.8 Million.
5. The Avengers – 11.4 Million. Actual: 11.2 Million.

…
Solid predictions, especially in picking the winner at the top. Only real surprise was the much bigger drop for Snow White And The Huntsman. Did word of mouth play a role? Perhaps. I believe there’s so many choices for action audiences right now that there’s only so much business that can go around.
Also wanted to make special note of The Hunger Games passing the 400 million dollar domestic mark.
Hunger Games has also passed Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two’s entire domestic run (381 million). Quite impressive.

Great predicting on Prometheus, very close! There were people who were expecting a lot more for this movie but I found the trailers for it more confusing than anything else. Intriguing, but confusing.
Thanks. There was definitely a lot more envisioned for “Promeotheus”
Good call.
Madagascar is the only family film out now and will probably continue to do well as there is absolutely zero in the family category on the horizon.
In fact, there’s nothing else of major interest scheduled until the 22nd (Abe the vampire killer). So unless some small indie film catches fire what we got is….what we got. At least, for a couple more weeks.
Which will mean pent-up demand for something new.
Which will mean Abe will likely do better than anticipated.
Biggest Losers: MIB3. Uh-oh. Down a crashing 30.1%
The franchise may have run its course, but it still delivered some Box office punch to the tune of $136 mil. in just two weeks.
“Snow” fared a wee bit better percentage-wise making it the second Biggest Loser falling off 25.5%. It’ll likely break $100 mil. in the absence of any competition.
In fact, according to anotehr website (I’d link it if I could figure out the code Sensei is using) they are already threatening a sequel (as the original story is finished it’s not clear there’s any more story left to tell…unless it’s just more of the same).
So…yeah…Madagascar at the top for a couple more weeks sounds about right.
