Sensei was hoping The Devil Inside to top the frame last weekend. It more than did that. Film ended up grossing a 30+ opening. Incredible considering it was only on over 2,200 screens.

The main development to occur last weekend was many sites picking MI4 to top the weekend, including those who had … current streaks calling the correct #1 film as long as Sensei’s. Those few sites saw their streaks all go down last weekend.
Sensei still holds the longest #1 call streak in the nation at …… 8 weeks, but now holds the streak alone. There are no longer … any prediction sites there with him.

1. The Devil Inside
Prediction: 18 million. Actual: 33.7 Million.
Very good opening. Film didn’t make it to Paranormal Activity like heights, but still grossed incredible well. Sensei’s call had it winning, but film ventured passed past his high mid-range call.
Sensei’s streak of calling the correct #1 film extends to 8 straight weeks.
2. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Prediction: 16 million. Actual: 19.8 million.
Despite being knocked off the top spot, film remains very strong with audiences. Film easily passed the 450 million mark worldwide.
3. Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows
Prediction: 10.7 million. Actual: 13.6 million.
Film will still not equal the gross of the first Sherlock Holmes ($209 million). Still, grossing over 330 million worldwide could lean the studio toward producing another Sherlock Holmes.

4. Alvin And The Chipmunks 3: Chip-Wrecked
Prediction: 9.8 million. Actual: #5 with 9.4 million.
Film did break the 100 million mark which usually means a hit. Unfortunately, the previous films in the series each grossed over 200 million, making this the odd one out.

5. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Prediction: 8.6 million. Actual: #4 with 11.3 million.
Film did get a much needed boost. A few more weeks like these and the film could finish with a very healthy gross overall.
Only time will tell though.

There were plenty of sites that put Devil Inside even higher than you. So don’t be so full of yourself. Enjoy your “win” of calling the #1 movie (even though you were over 15m off — but that doesn’t count right? Much like your Sherlock Holmes “win” of 68m vs 40m.) What a joke.
Appreciate the review. Yes, those two calls over the past two months could have been closer. Many over that time (which is quite a few films) have been pretty close or dead on. I remain very optimistic with that kind of accuracy, especially compared to all other prediction sites.
Calling the #1 film seems easy, but holding a streak for such a long period of time is anything but. Referring to other sites, many have seen streaks broken as much as three times during our current one.

Imo you’re one of the better prognosticators around. That doesn’t mean youre alone on the 8 weeks. APs chief BO guy has a longer streak, as does a few other minor ones. But ye if you only count “fanboy” sites like boxoffice.com, guru etc. then sure you’re way ahead
Actually we track everyone we can find and look for newer sites constantly. Had MI4 winning with 17 million, “Devil’s Inside” only 12-15 million from what we’ve been told.
We also don’t like using sites that do “range calls” such as film will do between 1-5 million, etc. etc. We like tracking the ones who do solid numbers, not ranges, like Sensei’s calls are. For holding a call streak, we give a little leeway on this though. Just as long as the range given isn’t too big.
