The Grey Soars. Streak Hits 11.

Really was the tale of “haves” and “have-nots” last weekend. Liam Neeson remains strong as an action presence with yet another higher than expected opening. Not so fortunate was Man On A Ledge and One For The Money who offered cheaper ticket specials, but didn’t have breakout weekends.
We also learned that the recent Academy Award nominations had minimal, if not nonexistent, effect on the nominated properties.

1. The Grey
Prediction: 15 million. Actual: 19.6 Million. Nice winner call…
Nice to see someone remain consistent at the box office. Liam Neeson adds another action hit to his box office resume which already includes Taken and Unknown.

2. Underworld: Awakening
Prediction: 12.4 million. Actual: 12.3 Million. Great call…
Very solid runner-up finish for Ms. Beckinsale A.K.A “Ms. January.”
3. Red Tails
Prediction: 12 million. Actual: #4 with 10.3 Million. Solid performance…
Film did post a solid hold, and will continue to do very well at the box office.

4. Man On The Ledge
Prediction: 11.2 million. Actual: #5 with 8 Million. Oh boy…
Really not much you can say about this. Cheaper tickets were offered and audiences still avoided this one. Ouch.

5. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
Prediction: 10 million. Actual: #6 with 6.98 Million. So much for the Oscar boost…
Film’s prediction only called a “slight” boost off its surprise Oscar nomination. Film didn’t even reach that mark, and with such low numbers, one could argue there wasn’t any Oscar boost of any kind.
6. One For The Money
Prediction: 8.5 Million. Actual: #3 with 11.5 Million. Slightly better…
A cheaper ticket special was also offered on this one, whether … that lead to the film’s slightly higher opening is debatable. Regardless, this overall opening isn’t very impressive for a star … of Katherine Heigl’s standing.
