Analysis

Texas Chainsaw 3D pulled off the weekend win, this despite horrible critical and audience reviews (audience rating was a dismal C -).  Rest of the weekend was closer with Django Unchained, The Hobbit, and Les Miserables all pulling in solid grosses.
The same cannot be said for Promised Land, as predicted the film flopped considerably. It should also be noted that these “political preachy,”-whatever you want to call them films, are getting worse at the box office. 2011′s flop Ides Of March opened to a paltry 10 million, Promised Land couldn’t earn half that amount.
At this rate, these political films won’t even be able to cover its own catering costs, let alone their production budgets.
The Hobbit has already passed the 800 million mark worldwide. Film continues to do extremely well.
Always tough to lose a long streak. I guess with the new year comes the chance at a new streak.
All the best,

Sensei White Lotus

I really appreciate this post. I’ve been looking everywhere for this! Thank goodness I found it on Bing. You have made my day! Thx again!

Yeah, I don’t think anybody expected Chainsaw to pull in the bank like that. It’ll probably nose-dive and quickly vanish, while the Hobbit’ll keep on trucking half way to February.

Promised Land was a stuttering clusterf- of miserable failure as expected, but that won’t stop Hollywood. They’ll keep sinking money on Important Message Movies that nobody wants to see while heaping blame and scorn on mishandled summer movies.

Yeah, Steel Priest was sure right about the streak being in jeopardy. I agree, “Chainsaw” will nosedive quite severely and “Promised Land” deserved to flop.
