Analysis

As expected, Super bowl weekend was pretty brutal on opening films. Warm Bodies couldn’t quite make a Chronicle-like opening (22 Million), but did very well under the circumstances. Most of this film’s profits will be based on word of mouth anyway in future weeks.
I didn’t see Bullet To The Head really breaking out, turns out I was right. The film’s title is terrible. Sylvester Stallone only seems to do well with recognizable icons like Rambo and vast action cast in Expendables. Film came in lower than even my low projection.
Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook did post good holds. The real surprise was Mama (#4 with 6.5 Million), which managed a top five spot. Considering the high drops that usually plague the horror genre films, this was a welcome sight. Playbook did continue the impressive box office streak for Jennifer Lawrence.
Stand Up Guys did very well despite not opening on very many screens (only around 659+). Being an action comedy was the right move here, helps tap into what made Red such a box office hit.
Also, as predicted, Les Miserables  did easily break the 140 million domestic mark.
Have a great week,

Sensei White Lotus
