It is my belief we’re all stuck in the Hobbit matrix, and can prove it…???

Analysis

Not surprisingly, The Hobbit destroyed all in its box office path. Hard to say if the Connecticut school shooting affected its numbers in any fashion, but film was set to come in much higher. Still, film easily set the record for highest December opening in film history (beating record holder I Am Legend with 77.2 million). Weather didn’t seem a factor across the country, so perhaps the school shooting didn’t make younger kids that excited to go to theaters on the east coast? Who knows.
Congrats to Lincoln on breaking the 100 million domestic mark. Film will continue to benefit off its awards nominations. As of now, I would it up there with Zero Dark Thirty as the films to beat this Oscar season. Skyfall inched closer to that one billion mark worldwide. Will be watching that run closely this week.
For what it’s worth, Rise of the Guardians has earned over 190 million worldwide. The film’s high production budget (145 million) continues to be a top concern for it, however.
Twilight Breaking Dawn: Part Two has already become the franchise’s most successful entry worldwide (well over 778 million at this point). Film remains on track to out-gross Twilight Breaking Dawn Part One domestically
…
As predicted, the weekend’s top five posted pretty honorable numbers in the face of The Hobbit’s gargantuan haul. Frame is now set-up for the remaining holiday entries very nicely.
Have a great week,

Sensei White Lotus

145 mil for Rise? Really? That seems excessively high.
